Fishing Charter FAQs

General Fishing Questions

What types of fishing charters do you offer?

We offer seasonal groundfishing, striped bass fishing, bluefin tuna fishing, and shark fishing charters. Availability varies by season, weather, and regulations. Fishing trips are primarily scheduled during spring and fall, with cruising charters prioritized during peak summer months.

Are fishing trips private?

Yes. All fishing charters are private trips for your group only. We do not combine groups.

Is fishing guaranteed?

Yes — we go out and fish on every fishing trip. However, catching fish is never guaranteed. While we do everything possible to put guests in the best position to succeed, we cannot guarantee specific species, quantities, or outcomes.

Do I need fishing experience?

No experience is required. We welcome beginners and experienced anglers alike. Instruction is provided as needed, and trips are tailored to your group’s experience level.

Licensing & Regulations

Do I need a fishing license?

No. When fishing aboard a licensed charter vessel, clients are covered under the vessel’s permits and do not need to obtain individual fishing licenses.

Are fishing regulations strictly followed?

Yes. All fishing activity and fish retention strictly comply with current federal and state regulations, including seasons, size limits, bag limits, and species restrictions.

Keeping Fish & Fillets

Can we keep the fish we catch?

When regulations allow and conditions permit, clients are typically offered a portion of the legal catch in the form of fillets at the end of the trip. However, retention and distribution are not guaranteed and are subject to the captain’s discretion. On days with a higher catch, it is standard practice in the charter industry for the captain to retain a reasonable share of the catch for the boat.

Will you fillet our fish?

Yes. When legal fish are retained, we will fillet and bag at least a portion of the catch for clients. Filleting is provided as a courtesy and depends on the species caught, weather conditions, trip length, and end-of-day timing. While we make every effort to provide fillets, the amount and extent of processing may vary based on conditions.

Do you freeze, store, or ship fish?

No. We do not freeze, store, or ship fish for clients.

Is the fish ready to cook when we take it home?

Fish are hand-processed to the best of our ability. As with all wild-caught seafood, clients should inspect and prepare the fish before cooking. Fillets may naturally contain pin bones, skin fragments, or parasites.

Bluefin Tuna Fishing

If we catch a bluefin tuna, who keeps it?

If a legal bluefin tuna is retained, the fish belongs to the boat. If sold commercially, all proceeds from the sale belong to the boat. This is consistent with standard New England tuna charter practices.

Do clients ever get tuna meat?

If a tuna is retained but not sold commercially, and if time and conditions allow, the captain may, at their discretion, distribute portions of the fish to clients.

Is catching a tuna guaranteed?

No. Bluefin tuna fishing is highly regulated and highly dependent on conditions. Catching or retaining a tuna is never guaranteed.

Shark Fishing

Are sharks kept?

No. Shark fishing is catch-and-release only. All shark fishing is conducted in accordance with current regulations and best practices to ensure safe handling and release.

When is shark fishing available?

All season, species-dependent. Availability varies based on regulations, species, and conditions.
